At Croydon Pilates, one of the most rewarding parts of what we do is seeing our clients grow stronger, more confident, and more connected to their bodies over time. This month, we’re delighted to shine a spotlight on Jon, one of our dedicated clients who regularly attends both 1-to-1 Reformer Pilates sessions and group classes at the studio in Back in Shape.
Jon began his Pilates journey after semi-retiring nearly six years ago. Like many people, he had started exercising more regularly and was going to the gym, but he found himself dealing with a few persistent niggling injuries. Pilates seemed like a natural next step, and it turned out to be exactly what he needed.
Since starting Reformer Pilates with us, Jon has noticed significant improvements in his core strength, overall wellbeing, and the way his body moves. The benefits haven’t just stayed within the studio walls either. Strengthening his core has helped him get even more out of the other exercise he enjoys, making Pilates a valuable foundation for his overall fitness.
In fact, Jon says that if he could only choose one form of exercise, it would be Pilates. 🙌
Jon initially started with 1-to-1 sessions, which gave him the confidence and personalised support he was looking for. Over time, as his strength and familiarity with the exercises grew, he began attending group classes as well, which is something he now really enjoys. 🤩

He describes the teaching at the studio as both supportive and challenging in the best way:
“The facilities are excellent and the standard of teaching from Silvie is brilliant. She stretches you but also supports your improvement.”
Jon also highlights something many new clients wonder about, and that is starting Pilates as a man. He admits it felt a little different at first, which is why he began with private sessions. But that supportive start helped him build confidence and comfortably move into group classes later on.
His advice for anyone thinking about trying Pilates for the first time?
Simply give it a go. 💪
